Precision-Aire has a soft spot for non-profits, so we were thrilled when the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) asked us to install the new HVAC system at the Gloria Gurney ASPCA Canine Annex for Recovery and Enrichment in New York City.

Along with the challenge of only a partial closure during the HVAC installation, the building, which housed offices, a large dog kennel area, and a kitten nursery, needed to meet or exceed tight hospital-level health standards. The animal rights organization wanted to provide a high level of air quality and a clean and healthy environment  for the animals in their charge. In addition, the duct work needed to withstand constant cleaning since their unique usage of the space put them at a higher risk for mold, mildew, and bacteria growth.

To satisfy the tight health constraints, Precision installed a unique duct work system that pulled air from the lower part of the rooms and returned it to the top, which kept the air circulating better and smelling fresh. To kill bacteria, mold, and viruses inside the HVAC system, a Fresh-Aire UV tubular rack system was installed, with the added benefit of eliminating the usage of harsh cleaning chemicals, which often negatively impact air quality. Return duct-work made of Corian overcame the challenge of condensation buildup and possible breakdown of the duct from continuous sterilization. With Precision’s help, the ASPCA was able to continue offering a safe and healthy temporary home for the animals they so generously support.
