After 30 years, Roosevelt Field mall decided to upgrade and relocate their existing food court into a new “Dining District,” which serves as the flagship model for all their Simon Property Group-owned malls. Precision-Aire handled the HVAC plan and spec build-out of 11 out of 17 of the food court restaurants, coordinating extensively with the landlord, tenants and Nassau County Fire Marshal.
For each restaurant, we installed a new HVAC split system that included an air handler, a condensing unit, a Captive Aire kitchen hood system (some with make-up air), fire-suppression system, and black iron ductwork. Each restaurant’s system had to co-habitate on the roof with the other Dining District systems and the existing mall systems, maintaining proper equipment clearance. To satisfy code, for example, exhaust from one restaurant couldn’t be adjacent to the fresh air intake for another restaurant. To add an additional challenge, the installation occurred during the holiday period with weather challenges, and as with many retail HVAC installations, the project was on a hyper-schedule.
